Former Citizen Lab security researcher and member of our technical advisory group, Nart Villeneuve, is part of a team that uncovered a malware campaign targeting European diplomats and foreign ministries.
Although little is known about who is behind the attacks, the history of the campaign uncovered suggests a more specialized group focusing on high value political targets. This is similar to what Villeneuve helped uncover in the Citizen Lab Tracking Ghostnet report from 2009.
The report does not reveal which ministries were targeted but states that the malware samples were meant for individuals involved in last September’s G20 talks.
