On August 9, 2022, Citizen Lab Director Ron Deibert appeared before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy, and Ethics to speak on the human rights, public, and national security risks associated with spyware and the unregulated nature of the mercenary spyware industry. As well, he provided initial recommendations for how the Canadian government should begin to address the use of spyware by government agencies like the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
