What Carney didn’t say in Davos is what the world needed to hear most
In an op-ed for the Toronto Star, Jason Stanley and Ron Deibert write that Mark Carney must emphasize the importance of democratic values on the world stage.
“Canada is a healthy, pluralistic, and multicultural democracy,” making it “more essential now than ever that our prime minister stands up for the values our tolerant, multiracial society embodies.”
Carney should provide “reassurance that a stable, thriving multiracial democracy is not only possible but desirable,” write Stanley and Deibert.
Ron Deibert is the director of the Citizen Lab and a professor of political science at the University of Toronto, and Jason Stanley is the Bissell-Heyd Chair in American Studies in the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, and also has an appointment in the Department of Philosophy.
