Citizen Lab Post-Doctoral Fellow Brenden Kuerbis wrote an article titled European Privacy Authorities Object to ICANN Whois Proposals for the CircleID news website.

In the article, Kuerbis said that the Article 29 Data Protection Working Party of the European Commission of Justice has written the ICANN Board regarding overreaching requests of law enforcement agencies in ICANN’s ongoing Registrar Accreditation Agreement negotiations. The Working Party expressed objections to the very broad scope of the proposed specification as “it may well facilitate the collection of information like credit card data, Skype handles, and communication log files and registration data.”
