Citizen Lab Director Ron Deibert spoke with The Globe and Mail’s telecom reporter Christine Dobby about recent issues related to the privacy of telecommunications customers’ personal information.
Deibert had just spoken about cyber security and privacy issues at the Canadian Telecom Summit in Toronto.
In On privacy, Canadian telecoms should be held to ‘far higher standard’, Deibert spoke about the newly-released web tool that makes it easy for Canadian consumers to ask their telecom providers directly what personal information has been shared. He also commented on the reluctance of Canadian telecommunications companies to disclose information about the number of requests they receive from law enforcement and other authorities related to their users’ information.
