Citizen Lab Senior Security Researcher Morgan Marquis-Boire will deliver research findings at a briefing entitled “Big Game Hunting: The Peculiarities of Nation-State Malware Research,” as part of the Black Hat USA 2015 conference.

The conference, which will be held on August 1-6 2015 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, convenes attendees for the latest updates in information security research. Participants from academia, research organizations, and the public and private sectors will also participate in technical courses led by industry experts.

Joined by independent security researcher Claudio Guarnieri, Morgan Marquis-Boire will speak at ‘briefing’ sessions on August 5-6. Their presentation will address the development of state-sponsored espionage tools. Examples include the production of the Babar malware, reportedly created by France, as well as Regin spyware by intelligence collaboration Five Eyes. Marquis-Boire will also present novel research techniques allowing analysts to confirm or deny software vendor’s statements about their products.
