Citizen Lab Senior Security Researcher Morgan Marquis-Boire was featured in the December 9 edition of the New Zealand Herald newspaper. Marquis-Boire discussed his research into online threats to activists and media and his work as the director of security at First Look Media. Marquis-Boire will deliver the keynote presentation at this year’s Kiwicon, which will take place on Thursday, December 11.
Morgan Marquis-Boire was also interviewed by the Globe and Mail regarding the importance of smartphone technologies such as encryption in making it harder for attackers, criminals, and even police to gain access to a user’s files. The article noted that over the past few months, companies such as Apple Inc. and Google Inc. “have announced improvements to the privacy protections on each company’s smartphones, tablets and computers, encrypting the data stored on users’ devices by default.”
