Citizen Lab partner and Cyber Stewards Network member Tibet Action Institute (TAI) released a documentary entitled “Tibet: Frontline of the New Cyberwar,” which tells the story of Tibetans who are trying to stay connected and advance their struggle for rights and freedom while defending themselves against targeted cyber attacks.
The film features interviews with Citizen Lab researchers and looks at the many ways technology has revolutionized life for Tibetans. Experts break down the types of digital attacks Tibetans are targeted with and discuss simple strategies people can take to strengthen their security.

Read our 2014 report, “Communities @ Risk: Targeted Digital Threats Against Civil Society,” which draws on four years of research with Tibet Action and nine other cooperating civil society groups. The study finds that civil society organizations (CSOs) that work to protect human rights and civil liberties around the world are being bombarded with the same persistent and disruptive targeted computer espionage attacks reportedly hitting industry and government.
