Projects

The Citizen Lab engages in research and development at the intersection of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), human rights and global security.  Our aim is to monitor, analyze, and impact the exercise of power in cyberspace.

The Citizen Lab accomplishes these goals through collaborative partnerships with leading edge research centers and organizations around the world, and through a mixed methods approach that combines technical reconnaissance, field investigations, and data mining, analysis, and visualization.

Financial support for the Citizen Lab’s research and development has come from the Ford Foundation, Open Society Institute, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada Centre for Global Security Studies, SecDev Group, Psiphon Inc., John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur FoundationDonner Canadian Foundation, and Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation.

The Citizen Lab has benefited by generous donations of software from Palantir Technologies and Oculus Info Inc.
