Join the Citizen Lab and the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity for a webinar where Citizen Lab researchers Noura Aljizawi, Gözde Böcü, and Nicola Lawford will present their report, “Enhancing Cybersecurity Resilience for Transnational Dissidents.”
The study investigates the cybersecurity threats faced by grassroots transnational advocacy organizations in the United States that are targeted by authoritarian governments. These organizations serve critical roles in pro-democracy activism and working with dissidents on the ground in their counties of origin, but often lack the resources to protect themselves from cyberattacks. This webinar will explore the specific threats these groups encounter, with an emphasis on exiled female dissidents who face unique challenges at the intersection of gender, politics, and home country-backed digital repression and are disproportionately targeted. The report tries to identify the primary cybersecurity threats faced by these transnational women activists in the U.S., understand the measures they use to protect themselves, and determine key areas for action and improvement to enhance their cybersecurity.
Moderated by Ron Deibert, director of the Citizen Lab, the discussion will cover key findings on the cybersecurity threat landscape, resilience, and areas for action and improvement to enhance the cybersecurity of transnational activists in the U.S.
